What is IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR)?

As the name implies, IELTS One Skill Retake  (OSR) is a feature conceived to help test-takers get their desired test score without retaking the full exam. If they want to improve their score on one section, they can retake any of them: Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking.

Advantages

Here are some benefits related to IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR):

  • You can focus just on one skill without retaking the full test, so you get to save time and money. You have a second chance to show your English level and improve your score in one section.
  • IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) follows the same format and timing as the regular test, which is why you don’t need to worry about preparing for a new exam and learning different task types.
  • You will receive a new IELTS Test Report Form (ETRF) with your IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) score. It also includes the scores from your original test and an overall CEFR score. Your results will be valid for two years from the original test date.
  • There will be no change to your other scores from your original test. And once you’ve received your results, if you would prefer to use your original score, you can.
  • If you know what your weaknesses are, you can prepare better. Now that you have detected the topics and questions that made you have a hard time, you can study more.
  • Take advantage of the preparation resources. For example, when taking the IELTS exam with the British Council, you can access IELTS Ready Premium (which offers more than 40 practice tests, model questions and answers, among others), webinars, trial exams, etc.

How does IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) work?

If you are wondering how you can book IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) in Canada, here are the conditions:

  • You can book it if you’ve recently completed a full IELTS on Computer test.
  • You must have received your results from a test center that offers IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR).
  • You can only retake one skill once per original test, and you must sit the One Skill Retake (OSR) within 60 days of your original test.

What is the difference between IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) and Enquiry on Results (EoR)?

In case you didn’t know, there is also EoR (Enquiry on Results), which gives you the possibility to request a revision of your results by a different examiner, if you are not satisfied with them.

You can apply for this modality within six weeks from the IELTS test date reflected on your Test Report Form. The results of your review will be available within 2 to 21 days of your EoR application.

But what are the differences between these options if they both allow you to change your result? The main variation is that OSR is an opportunity to retake one IELTS section, while EoR isn’t about retrieving the exam but asking for a second revision of your previous results.

Besides IELTS, are there other exams allowing retakes for single skills?

As we mentioned earlier, the option to retake a single section of the IELTS test offers several advantages. Are you curious if other exams provide similar options?

TOEFL

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) allows candidates to retake the entire exam, but it does not permit the repetition of specific sections. However, if someone is dissatisfied with his or her results, he or she can retake the test at any time.

PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic)

PTE Academic allows candidates to retake the entire exam or ask for a revaluation of the score. Nevertheless, you should be aware that your previous test result will automatically be replaced by the new one. All PTE exams are machine-scored, so it is unlikely that your overall grade will change if you ask for a revision of the results.

TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication)

If you don’t score as well as you hoped in one of the exam sections, you have the option to retake only that specific section without having to redo the entire exam.

Demonstrate your English level with IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR)!

Don’t miss your chance to improve your score as needed! By now, you should know that IELTS is accepted by more than 11.500 organizations and institutions, so it is one of the most prestigious exams worldwide.

With this new facility, you are more likely to get your desired score. Even if you don’t perform as well as expected in one section, you have a second chance to improve and study harder.
